From that meaning, though, arose the idea of “restoring” or “improving” one’s ethical character and behavior. That is apparently the meaning Paul uses here. Scripture is useful for restoring a Christian’s ethical character that has fallen into disrepair. If “reproof” has to do with confronting and refuting doctrinal error, “correction” has to do with confronting and refuting ethical error.
